Digital India campaign was launched in July 2015 by our respected prime minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji with the objective of empowering the citizens digitally. He had already predicted then that soon the E-Governance will be changed to M-Governance and we can see his distant vision as we are living in it, with over 4.5 billion mobile devices worldwide and India being the 2nd largest country in terms of mobile phone users. This program i.e. Digital India had already attracted investments above 4.5 lakh crores by the time of its launch and right now, the digital industry is probably the biggest employer in the market out there.
In addition to making people aware of this program and helping them access and avail the facilities built especially for them, various sorts of apps were offered by the government of India to the Indian population and are being offered even now, let us have a look at top 3 of those apps which might be extremely useful to you:
- BHIM: One of the major steps towards making India a cashless economy and enable secure, fast and reliable transactions through mobile apps, Bharat Interface for Money (BHIM) was released by National Payments Corporation of India i.e. NPCI on 29 Dec 2016. It is available in 13 languages and offers a transaction Up to 40,000 Indian rupees per day. The transaction is done directly from your bank account so you don’t need to pay any hidden charges for so-called “App wallet” thus it is a good initiative in making India digital and with over 10 Million download people too, have shown trust in it. Since demonetization on November 8, 2016, the overall digital transactions has increased 440% as told by Mr. Prabhu Ram, MD and group CEO of Payswiff.
- UMANG: Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance i.e. UMANG aims at making e-governance ‘Mobile-first’. It was released on 28 May 2017 by Ministry of Electronics and Information (MeitY) and National e-Governance Division(NeGD). Once downloaded, this app provides the citizens access to pan India e-Governance Services from the Central, State, Local bodies and various government agencies through an app, SMS, Web and IVR channels. This platform provides all the government departments and their services in one single easy to access portal.
- Startup India: India is the 2nd largest country in the world in terms of its population but at the same time, it is also the youngest country in the world with an average age of 26. It simply is not possible for the government to provide employment to such a huge population so people who can generate jobs are the most important asset to the country. The most creative brains are found in India. With that being known, Start-Up India initiative was molded into an app on October 19, 2016, by Dept. of Industrial Policy and Promotion and is intended to build a strong eco-system for nurturing innovation in the country.
